Owned by Badass Boss Babe, Shandon, the hippest gift shop in West Seattle is my local business spotlight this season. Alair, found in the Admiral neighborhood, specializes in unique and small batch gifts, with an emphasis on locally made products and companies that give back.

Opened in December 0f 2016, Alair means “happy or cheerful”, and they offer a variety of gifts with a sense of humor, but always kind. They store just moved locations, so if you’ve been there before, just walk a jaunt north from the old spot on California Ave and you’ll run right into it.

Shandon opened Alair because nothing felt as good as finding the completely perfect and quirky gift for someone. She thinks that handwritten letters and cards are the only way to go. If you know me, you can see why I like to claim this boutique as a favorite. Shandon believes fiercely in community over competition, and building up those around you.

Her favorite thing about owning a gift shop is being able to know the neighbors and supporting fellow small businesses. She even lives just a couple blocks from Alair!

Mother’s Day is coming right up and I suggest popping into Alair’s new shop for some great gift ideas. The shop has something for everyone, and every type of relationship, bringing a little much-needed humor into every day life.
