AVOID SOCIAL MEDIA

Broadcasting that you’re out of town creates an inadvertent invitation for burglars. Wait until you return to share photos & vacation stories.

SET LIGHTS ON TIMER

Give the illusion that you’re home and set lights on timers - this way it appears more natural than having a light on the whole time you are gone.

ALERT YOUR ALARM COMPANY

Let your alarm company know that you’ll be away an extended period of time. Be sure to set your alarm properly when you leave.

SECURE YOUR VALUABLES

Be sure not to leave valuables out in plain site that are visible from a window.

STOP MAIL & NEWSPAPERS

Either stop deliveries or ask a friend or neighbor to collect them for you.

DON’T LEAVE SPARE KEY OUT

Burglars check in obvious spots, under door mats, above door frames & under the key while you’re gone.

KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS

Keeping an eye out for one another is a great way to stay safe. Join your Next Door community group to keep tabs on what’s happening in your neighborhood. And if you haven’t already, personally introduce yourself to your neighbors!
